Jim Davis’ asthma improved as time went on and he was able to go away to Ball State University in nearby Muncie, Indiana. He studied art and business. He was far more interested in art, but at the time, the University did not offer a degree in art! At University he had the opportunity to learn all sorts of drawing techniques. Later, he went to work in an advertising agency. When Tom K. Ryan, the creator of the cartoon Tumbleweeds (very popular in US at the time) asked Jim to be his assistant, it was Jim entry in to the rather closed world of the cartoonist.
